Andreas Thom
I am a Professor of Geometry at TU Dresden, Fakultät für Mathematik. My research focus is mainly on geometric group theory, real algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, ergodic theory, and operator algebras. And I enjoy communicating mathematics to a broader audience.

- 2003-2005 Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Münster.

- 2007-2009 Junior Professor (W1) of Geometrical Aspects of Pure Mathematics, University of Göttingen.
- 2009-2014 Professor (W3) of Theoretical Mathematics, University of Leipzig.
- 2014-present Professor (W3) of Geometry, TU Dresden.

- 2011 ERC Starting Grant ("Geometry and Analysis of Group Rings").
- 2016 ERC Consolidator Grant ("Groups, Dynamics, and Approximation").
- 2018 Invited speaker (Topology / Analysis & Operator Algebras) at ICM Rio de Janeiro.
- Since 2013 Member of the Max Planck Society and External Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, Leipzig.
- Since 2016 Member of the Scientific Committee of the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach and the Gesellschaft für Mathematische Forschung.
- Since 2017 Scientific director of Erlebnisland Mathematik. I am running the series Mathematik im Gespräch.
